Jenny Perry
Canadian pianist Glenn Gould is world renowned for his mastery of the piano, particularly his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach. He is just as well known for wearing gloves and choosing an old chair over a standard piano bench when he played.

Using paint, fabric, and thread, I interpreted "The Real Glenn Gould" from a photograph of Glenn Gould by Ormond Gigli
(used with permission).

Abstract
Victoria Gray

The eccentric Pianist Glenn Gould in the abstract!  Glenn Gould, the iconic Canadian pianist, is probably as well known for his eccentricities as for his mastery of the piano, particularly his interpretations of the music of J.S. Bach.  Incorporating some of the same fabrics used by Jenny Perry in her realistic portrait, I have portrayed Glenn Gould abstractedly by creating a flowing musical background and including a keyboard and the characteristic fingerless gloves unique to this man all of which should make him easily recognizable to the viewer.

Techniques:
Acrylic paint on fabric, machine appliqué, machine quilting, thread painting

  1. The techniques I used to paint Glenn Gould's face were learned in a workshop with Bonnie McCaffery. She will be teaching Painted Faces in a two day workshop at Quilt Canada 2014, to be held at Brock University in St. Catharines ON. The paints I used were DecoSoft by DecoArt in a limited palette. To give realism to his hair, I used mohair roving.
